How to use Word Counter
Check the length of a draft, description, or message before you publish it. The counter uses browser word segmentation, so punctuation alone does not count as a word.
- Paste your draft into the text field.
- Run the counter to see word, character, sentence, and line totals.
- Copy or download the counts for your editing notes.
Good to know
- Word and sentence boundaries follow your browser’s Unicode segmentation rules, which can differ from a publisher’s counter.
- Whitespace-only input contains zero words and sentences. A trailing line break creates an additional empty line.
Common questions
Does punctuation count as a word?
Punctuation by itself does not. Browser segmentation decides boundaries inside contractions, numbers, and languages without spaces.
Is my draft uploaded?
No. Counting runs inside your browser, and this tool does not send the text to a server.
