How to use Local Typing Speed Practice
Practice entering a short original passage and inspect your own current attempt. Timing begins at the first committed input, pauses when hidden and can finish early. Gross five-scalar word speed is shown separately from positional accuracy so an inserted or shifted character is not quietly reinterpreted as a correct word.
- Choose a nonblank passage and active-time limit, then Run.
- Type inside the dedicated practice input; inspect exact-position matches and pause/resume as needed.
- Finish or let the active limit expire, then copy/download the bounded attempt evidence.
Good to know
- Reference and entered text each have at most 2,000 Unicode scalars. Timing choices are 15, 30, 60 or 120 active seconds. The first entered scalar is excluded from speed because its input event starts the clock.
- A word is exactly five Unicode scalars here, including spaces. Accuracy counts equal source/entered positions rather than edit distance; insertions can shift later positions. No normalization, grapheme equivalence or language/IME benchmark comparability is claimed.
- Committed composition text is used, and a paste event is disclosed. The tool does not certify manual typing, prevent every browser edit method or provide a hiring/exam score. No keyboard listener is attached outside the practice input.
- Hiding pauses until explicit Resume. Reset/new Run/page exit clears the attempt and disposes timing. No persistent ranking, account, uploaded text or automatic history exists.
- Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.
Common questions
Can I compare this score directly with any commercial typing test?
No. Tests can use different word, error, timing and language rules. This tool displays its five-scalar speed definition and separate positional accuracy, and records pasting when observed. Use it for transparent local practice.
Is this input sent to a server?
No. The application processes this input inside your browser tab and does not save it to persistent storage.
