How to use PCM WAV Waveform Image Generator

Make a compact waveform picture from actual PCM samples without uploading or playing audio. Every source sample contributes to a horizontal min/max bin, preserving narrow sample peaks rather than selecting one arbitrary sample per image column.

  1. Choose a supported local WAV or load the original generated chirp.
  2. Set the image and analysis options, then run locally.
  3. Read the explicit scales and report; download the original image.

Good to know

  • One ordinary uncompressed PCM16 WAV, mono/stereo, 8–192 kHz, at most 10 MiB, 120 seconds and 2,880,000 frames. RF64, compressed/float/extensible WAV and malformed chunks are refused. No browser audio decoder or microphone access.
  • A local module Worker gets 10 seconds for preparation and 2 seconds for computation. Image output is limited to 1400 by 800 pixels; decoded sample processing and FFT work are bounded. No upload, playback, account or saved history.
  • Normalized signed PCM sample amplitude is plotted, not interpolated analog amplitude, true peak, LUFS or calibrated sound pressure. Mean stereo can cancel opposite-polarity channels. The SVG uses fixed generated labels and no external resources.

Common questions

Are small transients lost when the picture has fewer columns than samples?

Each column retains its bin’s minimum and maximum sample. It preserves sample extrema within that time bin but does not reproduce every sample’s exact time or reconstruct an analog waveform.

Can I use MP3, compressed WAV or microphone input?

This version reads the documented PCM16 WAV subset directly. It does not decode MP3, access a microphone, play audio or upload a file.
