How to use Image Channel Split and Packing Workbench

Split RGBA into grayscale PNGs or pack explicitly selected image channels into a new PNG. Equal-size source images remain unscaled. Mapping1.R,2.G or3.B selects a source channel;0 and255 insert constant byte values. ORM texture packing can be described with these same controls.

  1. Provide one to four local source images, output red channel, output green channel, output blue channel, output alpha channel.
  2. Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
  3. Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.

Good to know

  • Static PNG, baseline JPEG or simple WebP only;8MiB/file,4096px per side. Structural preflight runs before native decode; animations, extended WebP, progressive JPEG and compressed PNG metadata are rejected.
  • Separate worker:10seconds loading/preparation,2seconds compute. Canvas operates on decoded8-bit browser channels, not raw sensor or color-calibrated values.
  • Up to4 images and20MiB total. Split allows one source up to800000 pixels; pack requires aggregate sources plus output at most4MP. Generated ZIP is capped at16MiB.
  • Browser premultiplication can discard hidden RGB under zero alpha. This does not recover original invisible channel bytes or apply material-engine conventions automatically.
  • Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.

Common questions

Which channels should I use for an ORM texture?

Choose red=occlusion, green=roughness and blue=metallic using the appropriate source numbers/channels; select the mapping required by your target engine.

Does this change my original input?

No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
