How to use Git Loose Object Inspector
Inflate a bounded zlib Git loose object and compute its exact SHA1 or SHA256 object identifier. Object length is checked against the type/size/NUL header. Blob previews, commit/tag headers and raw tree entries are inspected without resolving other objects.
- Provide local loose object, optional compressed hexadecimal.
- Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
- Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.
Good to know
- 1MiB compressed,5MiB inflated,100× expansion,10000 tree entries. A separate worker has10seconds startup and2seconds compute.
- Native zlib decompression is required. Packfiles, delta objects, alternate hash inference, object graph validation and signature verification are unsupported.
- Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.
Common questions
Why is the header included in the object hash?
Git hashes type, a space, payload byte length, NUL and the exact payload. Hashing the payload alone gives a different identifier.
Does this change my original input?
No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
