How to use OpenType Font File Inspector
Read a TTF/OTF table directory, checksums, selected naming records and basic font-unit metadata without loading the font. See exact table ranges and metadata encodings before using an unfamiliar font file. Keep container corruption checks separate from glyph validity, licensing and safe execution.
- Provide single uncompressed ttf or otf file.
- Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
- Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.
Good to know
- Single-font sfnt TrueType/OpenType only; 8 MiB and 256 sorted, unique nonoverlapping table ranges. Collections, WOFF/WOFF2 and legacy wrappers are refused rather than decompressed or passed to a font engine.
- Naming table formats 0/1: at most 512 names, 100 language tags, 4,096 bytes per string and 64 KiB total naming-string source bytes. Unicode/Windows Unicode records use strict UTF-16BE; other encodings are shown only as bounded hex previews.
- Checksums use zero padding to a four-byte word and the special zeroed head adjustment field. Mismatches are reported, not called proof of malware or a complete font-validity result.
- The example is an original minimal directory fixture with head/maxp/name tables and deliberately missing required rendering tables. It exercises metadata inspection and is not offered as a usable typeface.
- No glyph outline, hinting program, shaping, cmap coverage, variation, license grant or embedding-rights verdict is produced. No font face is installed, activated or rendered.
- Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.
Common questions
Does a valid checksum mean a font is safe and licensed to use?
No. The checksum can expose some byte corruption. It does not authenticate the publisher, validate font programs or grant any license; inspect those issues separately before deploying a typeface.
Does this change my original input?
No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
