How to use File Type Inspector
Compare recognizable leading bytes with the extension and declared MIME type. Unknown or container matches remain explicitly tentative.
- Enter local file.
- Choose the settings for file type inspector, then run the tool.
- Review the result and any limitations before copying or downloading it.
Good to know
- 25 MiB selection cap, only the first 64 bytes are inspected. Empty/truncated files can remain unknown.
- A ZIP match does not identify a particular Office format. Signatures can be forged and are not antivirus results.
- Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.
