How to use Fixed-Width Record Converter
Read positional records without guessing column boundaries. Widths count Unicode code points, not bytes or terminal cells; overflow is rejected unless truncation is explicitly selected.
- Enter input, comma-separated widths, csv headers for fixed input.
- Choose the settings for fixed-width record converter, then run the tool.
- Review the result and any limitations before copying or downloading it.
Good to know
- At most 5,000 rows and 100 widths from 1–500 code points. Parsing trims right padding but preserves leading spaces/zeros.
- Positions are Unicode code points, not encoded bytes, display cells, or grapheme clusters. CSV output is formula-protected.
- Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.
Common questions
Will a long value be silently cut?
No. Reject is the default; truncation requires an explicit selection.
Is this input sent to a server?
No. The application processes this input inside your browser tab and does not save it to persistent storage.
