How to use Find & Replace
Update repeated names, phrases, or separators in plain text. Search and replacement are literal, so symbols such as $, *, and brackets keep their ordinary meaning.
- Paste the text to edit and enter an exact search string.
- Enter replacement text or leave it empty to delete matches.
- Choose all occurrences or the first occurrence, then run and review the result.
Good to know
- Matching is case-sensitive and literal. Regular expressions and case-insensitive searches are not supported.
- Matches do not overlap. Output is limited to 2,000,000 characters to prevent accidental expansion.
Common questions
Can I search for regular-expression characters?
Yes, as ordinary text. A search for .* finds those exact two characters; it does not execute a pattern.
Can I replace a line break?
Yes. The search and replacement fields accept multiple lines. Paste the exact line break used by the input.
