How to use Text Diff
Review edits to a draft, configuration snippet, or list. The report prefixes removed lines with −, added lines with +, and unchanged lines with a space.
- Paste original and updated versions into their labeled fields.
- Run the line comparison and review + additions and − removals.
- Copy or download the report to keep a record of changes.
Good to know
- Line endings are normalized to LF before comparison. Whitespace inside lines remains significant.
- Each side is limited to 50,000 characters and 2,000 lines, with a short computation limit for responsiveness.
- The download is a readable line report, not a patch file for automatically applying edits.
Common questions
Are my texts sent to a comparison server?
No. Both inputs and the difference calculation stay in your browser.
Does the comparison ignore a missing final newline?
No. A missing final newline is reported explicitly, while CRLF, CR, and LF line-ending styles are treated as equivalent.
