How to use DNS Wire Message Workbench
Build an offline DNS query or inspect a bounded captured DNS wire message. Build produces real query bytes for selected record types. Inspect validates message/name/vector boundaries and decodes supported A, AAAA, name, MX and TXT RDATA; unknown records stay hex.
- Provide captured message hex (inspect), ascii query name, query id.
- Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
- Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.
Good to know
- DNS message≤64KiB;10 questions and100 resource records; backward compression pointers only, with bounded traversal.
- Builder supports ASCII labels/IN class with recursion desired. No resolver connection, actual DNS lookup, DNSSEC validation or hostname ownership check.
- Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.
Common questions
Is this a DNS lookup tool?
It builds or decodes message bytes offline. It does not send them to a resolver or establish that an answer is current, authoritative or authentic.
Does this change my original input?
No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
