Camera Exposure and Bracket Plan

Plan an ideal equivalent shutter and a third-stop bracket after authored aperture, ISO and ND changes, with exact checks against your shutter limits.

✓ Browser-local processing
Use the complete example schema. Quantities are exact decimal strings with up to six places; do not replace them with JSON decimal numbers.

How to use Camera Exposure and Bracket Plan

Start with a reference exposure you chose, enter target aperture, ISO and whole-stop ND, and select an odd bracket length. The planner preserves literal parameter ratios, lists dark-to-bright shutter targets and checks the entered shutter interval using exact cubed comparisons.

  1. Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.
  2. Start with a reference exposure you chose, enter target aperture, ISO and whole-stop ND, and select an odd bracket length. The planner preserves literal parameter ratios, lists dark-to-bright shutter targets and checks the entered shutter interval using exact cubed comparisons.
  3. Calculate, inspect the complete witnesses and limitations, then copy or download the JSON report.

Good to know

  • Reference and target f-number 0.25–128, ISO 1–1,000,000, ND 0–20 whole stops; shutter inputs 0.000001–86,400 seconds as decimal strings or 1/integer up to denominator 1,000,000. Use 1–19 odd shots and a step of 1–12 third stops. Calculated targets may fall outside input shutter bounds and are retained as infeasible evidence.
  • Aperture is its literal entered f-number, not a rounded ideal stop. This ideal constant-scene model treats ISO as brightness gain; it does not meter light, increase photons with ISO, calibrate filters, handle flash/reciprocity failure or recommend a scene exposure. No image processing, HDR merge, camera-dial snapping, device control or compatibility guarantee.
  • Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.

Common questions

Is f/5.6 treated as exactly one stop from f/4?

No. The entered value 5.6 is used literally, so its squared ratio to 4 is 1.96. Real camera markings often round ideal stop values. Bracket offsets are explicitly exact thirds of a stop; their irrational times retain a cube-root expression alongside approximate seconds.

Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?

No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
