How to use Add Line Numbers
Prepare references for a review or label rows in a plain-text fixture. Numbering changes text only and does not add editor markup.
- Paste the text block.
- Set the starting number, padding, separator, and blank-line rule.
- Generate the numbered plain text for your review or fixture.
Good to know
- At most 20,000 lines. Existing numbers are not detected or removed, and CRLF/CR endings normalize to LF.
- Skipped blank lines retain their whitespace and do not advance the sequence. A trailing newline is a blank logical line.
Common questions
Does this add real code-editor line numbers?
No. Prefixes become part of the copied text. Use your editor’s display settings for non-content line numbers.
Does padding truncate larger line numbers?
No. Padding sets a minimum digit width. Larger values retain all of their digits.
