How to use Word Scramble Practice Sheets

Turn an original spelling list into a handout that learners can actually use. Each scrambled word contains exactly the intended answer’s letters, repeated letters included, and its displayed order always changes. The tool refuses conflicting answer inventories within your list and lets you download the student pages without a hidden teacher answer section. Your clues still determine which language word is intended.

  1. Enter one to fifty original {word, clue} records, or select an actual UTF-8 JSON file. A selected file takes precedence over the text field.
  2. Choose a replay number, A4 or Letter, and whether to append separate teacher answer pages. Review the supplied clues and any ambiguity yourself.
  3. Download the HTML, open it locally and inspect your browser’s print preview at the selected paper size. Keep any teacher pages separate from the student handout.

Good to know

  • Words must contain 2–24 original ASCII letters only; validation happens before uppercasing. Clues can contain up to 160 UTF-16 units of well-formed Unicode on one line, and the nonblank title up to 80 units. Tabs, CR/LF, NEL and Unicode line/paragraph separators refuse. One to fifty records, exactly word and clue with string values; duplicate JSON members and extra fields refuse.
  • Equal-letter words cannot make a changed scramble and refuse. Any two supplied answers with the same uppercase letter multiset, including duplicate words, also refuse. There is no dictionary, difficulty estimate, unique-language-answer guarantee, learning outcome claim or imported word list.
  • Replay numbers are canonical unsigned 32-bit decimal digits. A deterministic non-cryptographic xorshift32 shuffle makes at most eight attempts per word, then swaps the first unequal letter pair if needed. This is classroom variation, not secure randomness or a promise that different replay numbers always differ.
  • Student pages have at most five items; teacher pages have at most fourteen answers. Omit mode excludes the teacher section, answer fields and inverse permutations from both report and artifact. The visible letters, original title and author clues can still reveal an answer; this is not encryption or test security.
  • An optional actual file must be nonempty, at most 50,000 bytes and strict UTF-8 with at most one initial BOM. JSON text is capped at 40,000 characters with an 8-level/1,000-token conservative preflight; output at 300,000 characters. Unsupported controls, malformed Unicode, nested records, numeric words and extra values refuse atomically.
  • Only fixed source-controlled HTML and CSS are emitted; original titles and clues are escaped text. Nothing is rendered into the tool page, fetched, uploaded or saved. Browser fonts and print scaling can affect the artifact: inspect the actual preview before handing it out.
  • Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.

Common questions

Does rejecting equal letter inventories prove every puzzle has only one possible answer?

No. It prevents two answers in your supplied list from sharing a letter bag. An unlisted dictionary word may still use the same letters, so write a useful clue and review the intended vocabulary yourself.

Is this input sent to a server?

No. The application processes this input inside your browser tab and does not save it to persistent storage.
