How to use Text-cell Table Pivot

Recover a wide text table from records such as person, field and response. Every observed cell keeps its original string and source-record witness. Missing combinations remain distinguishable from observed empty values in the report, and ambiguous repeated cells stop the export instead of being silently overwritten.

  1. Paste a rectangular long table and choose one to three row-key columns.
  2. Name separate field/value columns and choose a literal missing-combination fill.
  3. Inspect cell provenance and download the separate wide CSV; resolve repeated combinations in the source first.

Good to know

  • At most 200,000 CSV characters, 2,000 data records and 64 source columns. At most 100 distinct generated fields and 5,000 matrix value cells; output row and field order follow first occurrence.
  • Keys use exact strings, including empty strings. Field names must be nonblank, at most 200 characters and different from row-key headers. Duplicate row-key/field pairs are refused even if their values match.
  • No sum, count, mean, type inference, normalization or coalescing occurs. JSON null cells mean no observed combination; present empty strings retain their original record number.
  • CSV formula-prefix protection can add an apostrophe to risky cells/headers. Original strings remain in JSON evidence. Record numbers count CSV data records, not physical multiline source lines.
  • Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.

Common questions

Why does a duplicate with the same text still stop the pivot?

There are two source observations for one intended cell. This workflow does not decide which observation to keep or invent an aggregation rule. Resolve that ambiguity explicitly before reshaping.

Is this input sent to a server?

No. The application processes this input inside your browser tab and does not save it to persistent storage.
