How to use Surface Coverage and Container Planner

Subtract rectangular openings from rectangular surfaces. Required volume is net area×coats/entered coverage×(1+waste). Whole containers use an exact rational ceiling of the parsed numbers’ canonical decimal values, avoiding floating ceil errors.

  1. Enter json surfaces [width, height], json openings [width, height], coat count, area covered per volume unit, waste fraction, volume per container.
  2. Choose the stated convention and check the units and supported model.
  3. Calculate, inspect the result, then copy or download it.

Good to know

  • 1–100 surface rows and0–100 opening rows [width, height] in matching length units; dimensions positive. Coats1–20,waste fraction0–1,positive coverage/container volume. No prices or guaranteed material performance.
  • Runs locally. Text/JSON fields are capped at30,000 characters; stricter page-specific and numeric-string limits also apply. Numeric inputs are bounded to magnitude1e15 and nonzero magnitude at least1e-100 unless an exact-string mode states otherwise. Approximate summaries use12 significant digits; CSV numeric cells retain the complete stored value and potentially formula-like string cells gain a protective apostrophe; unsupported, non-finite or detected underflow states return an error.

Common questions

Why can the output include unused material?

Containers are whole packages. The tool separately reports required volume, purchased volume and the remainder under your entered coverage and waste assumptions.

Is the input uploaded or saved?

No. The tool calculates inside this browser tab and provides a local download; it does not persist your input.
