Stitch Gauge and Repeat Planner

Convert measured stitch and row gauge into positive repeat-compatible pattern counts with nearest, at-least or at-most sizing and exact errors.

✓ Browser-local processing
Use the complete example schema. Quantities are exact decimal strings with up to six places; do not replace them with JSON decimal numbers.

How to use Stitch Gauge and Repeat Planner

Measure stitches and rows over their own swatch spans. For each axis supply target size, edge count, repeat multiple and rounding policy. Choose a permitted positive count, then inspect the actual size and signed target difference rather than assuming the gauge guarantees fit.

  1. Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.
  2. Measure stitches and rows over their own swatch spans. For each axis supply target size, edge count, repeat multiple and rounding policy. Choose a permitted positive count, then inspect the actual size and signed target difference rather than assuming the gauge guarantees fit.
  3. Calculate, inspect the complete witnesses and limitations, then copy or download the JSON report.

Good to know

  • Two axes, each with swatch count and ideal/chosen pattern count at most 1,000,000; repeat 1–1,000 and edges 0–1,000. Positive spans up to 1,000,000, six-place decimal strings. At-most refuses when no positive count fits.
  • One uniform pitch per axis; edges are counted at that same pitch. No shaping, yarn/needle choice, stretch/blocking, material usage or garment-size recommendation. One common length unit, with no unit conversion.
  • Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.

Common questions

How does nearest rounding break a tie?

It selects the larger allowed count. At-least chooses a count whose resulting dimension reaches the target; at-most chooses one that stays within it. Each axis reports its actual span and signed error, and the tool refuses a count beyond its declared budget.

Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?

No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
