How to use Cross-Stitch Grid Chart Builder

Prepare a small original full-cross design from explicit rows and a palette you choose. The printable document combines a color/symbol key with readable chart tiles; source coordinates and repeat-only overlap make each displayed cell traceable to the original grid.

  1. Create a unique uppercase-letter/digit symbol palette with literal names and #RRGGBB colors. Enter equal-width original row strings, using dot for blank cells.
  2. Choose monochrome Symbols or Color + symbols, core tile rows/columns from 10 to 40 and overlap 0 or 1. Source rows run top to bottom and columns left to right.
  3. Download the complete printable HTML, inspect the key, source numbering, chart tile bounds and center marks, then print at your intended scale. Review JSON for exact counts and core/overlap witnesses.

Good to know

  • The source grid has 1–40 rows and 1–40 columns, with 1–16 unique one-character uppercase ASCII A–Z/digit 0–9 palette symbols; dot is reserved for no stitch. Palette names are nonblank literal Unicode text up to 80 UTF-16 code units and colors are exactly #RRGGBB, canonicalized to uppercase. Every marked cell must have a palette entry; at least one marked cell is required. No trimming, lowercase coercion or blank-grid page is inferred.
  • Only full cross stitches are represented. Fractional/back stitches, thread blends, knitting direction, photograph conversion, automatic quantization, branded thread matching, actual fabric count, thread length and purchasing estimates are not provided. You author the original design and palette.
  • Every original cell belongs to exactly one core tile. Optional overlap repeats only the preceding row/column for reference; teal corner marks identify those cells. Full counts exclude overlap and retain unused palette entries with zero stitches. A blank dot cell receives no stitch symbol.
  • A chart cell is 3 mm in the generated physical-size SVG, with ordinary 1.8 mm monospaced symbols and source-number labels. It does not set the stitch size on fabric. Fixed 10-cell grid emphasis and exact full-design center marks aid counting; screen/printer color, actual font support, page layout, paper scale and crafting suitability require inspection. At most 16 chart sections plus two key sections, with no more than eight palette entries per key section. Actual print page breaks require inspection.
  • Browser-local processing, with no upload, persistence, external resources or code execution. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters, 10,000 values and 18 levels. Generated HTML is capped at 750,000 characters, standalone SVG at 50,000 and the complete report at 1,000,000. The downloaded artifact must be inspected in the target browser and print setup.

Common questions

Do the overlapping cells add stitches to the count?

No. Core tiles partition the original grid exactly once. Any preceding overlap row or column is a repeated visual reference and is marked with small teal corners. The legend counts only original full-cross cells; blank cells and unused palette entries are explicit.

Are my inputs uploaded or retained?

No. Computation and artifact construction stay in the current browser tab. Downloads are local files; no outside data service, storage or account is required.
