How to use Knife Pleat Fold-line Layout
Choose the side carrying the fold, finished pitch, return depth and repeat count. The report separates end allowances, locates both folds in every repeat and maps each oriented raw segment onto the finished edge so that width consumption can be checked directly.
- Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.

- Calculate, inspect the complete witnesses and limitations, then copy or download the JSON report.
Good to know
- At most 100 repeats. Finished pitch and return depth are positive six-place decimal mm through 1,000,000; depth must not exceed pitch. End allowances are nonnegative through 1,000,000 mm. Total cut width is capped at 1,000,000,000 mm and exact fractions retain all declared positions.
- This is a one-dimensional, zero-thickness, unstacked knife-fold model. The named fold side is defined by the position table rather than a fabric's right/wrong face. No box/inverted/accordion/stacked folds, garment fitting, fabric thickness, grain/pattern matching, joining, procurement, machine control or ready-to-cut garment pattern. Test markings on a scrap before applying them to real material.
- Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.
Common questions
Why is cut width not always three times finished width?
Each repeat consumes its finished pitch plus twice the return depth. It becomes three times the finished pitch only when depth equals pitch. Shallower unstacked folds consume less. End allowances are added separately and never counted as finished pleated width.
Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?
No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
