Sheet Metal Bend Development Workbench

Develop an authored sheet-metal strip into neutral straight and bend segments, keeping flange conventions, setback deductions and cumulative flat positions explicit.

✓ Browser-local processing
Use the complete example schema. Quantities are exact decimal strings with up to six places; do not replace them with JSON decimal numbers.

How to use Sheet Metal Bend Development Workbench

Choose tangent lengths or outside virtual-sharp dimensions, enter one more flange than bends and supply each inside radius, bend-through angle and K-factor. The report separates neutral bend arcs from straight lengths and records cumulative flat positions for the entire sequence.

  1. Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.
  2. Choose tangent lengths or outside virtual-sharp dimensions, enter one more flange than bends and supply each inside radius, bend-through angle and K-factor. The report separates neutral bend arcs from straight lengths and records cumulative flat positions for the entire sequence.
  3. Calculate, inspect the complete witnesses and limitations, then copy or download the JSON report.

Good to know

  • At most 32 bends and 33 flanges, thickness above zero through 1,000 mm, lengths/radii through 1,000,000 mm, authored K-factor 0–1 and positive neutral radius. Tangent mode accepts bend-through angles above zero through 175°; outside-virtual-sharp mode is limited to 90°. Developed length is capped at 1,000,000,000 mm.
  • This is a one-dimensional neutral-axis geometric estimate. No springback, thinning, tooling clearances, bend collisions, hems, CAD topology, forming qualification or material K-factor lookup. Pi/trigonometric results are approximate. Non-right-angle outside flanges near zero residual are refused; exact 90° setbacks retain exact rational straight lengths. Verify an actual process with measured samples.
  • Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.

Common questions

Which angle and flange dimensions should I enter?

The bend-through angle is rotation away from a straight strip; a 90° turn also has a 90° opening. Tangent lengths stop where each arc begins. Outside virtual-sharp dimensions extend to the theoretical intersections of adjacent outer straight faces. These conventions cannot be mixed inside one model.

Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?

No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
