How to use Selected Spreadsheet Source Values
Read a small canonical XLSX worksheet range as stored source records. Shared strings and inline text become literal strings while numeric spellings retain precision. Each output cell distinguishes absent source from a present cell without a stored value and keeps its formula source when present. This is a source export, not an Excel rendering or calculation engine.
- Choose a supported small XLSX or load the original generated source-value fixture.
- Enter the exact sheet name and an explicit inclusive range of at most 5,000 cells.
- Review cached-value/formula/hidden-sheet evidence in JSON; download CSV only after considering formula protection and privacy.
Good to know
- One nonempty ZIP at most 4 MiB, existing strict 200-entry archive preflight and CRC-checked selected extraction. Canonical transitional SpreadsheetML xl/workbook.xml main type and internal worksheet/shared-string relationships only; macro-enabled main types, encryption and unsupported paths are refused.
- At most 6 selected UTF-8 XML documents, 200,000 bytes per document/1 MiB aggregate and 40,000 aggregate XML elements; existing DTD/entity, 20,000-elements-per-document and 60-level guards apply. A 5-second cooperative budget does not forcibly interrupt native XML parsing.
- At most 20 declared sheets, 5,000 scanned source cells, 5,000 shared strings and 200,000 aggregate cell text characters. Inclusive selection spans at most 64 columns and 5,000 cells; large declared dimension attributes never allocate a full virtual worksheet.
- Source n/s/inlineStr/str/b/e/d cells only. Original numeric/date lexemes and Excel _xHHHH_ string escape spellings remain strings; booleans remain 0/1. Formulas are never evaluated, shared formulas are not expanded and cached values may be absent or stale. Workbook date-system source is reported without converting serials. Styles, date display, merged-cell propagation, row/column visibility and external-link caches are unassessed.
- CSV has column letters and row_number rather than inventing a header row. Formula-prefix protection can change risky exported strings; JSON retains originals. Hidden-sheet or other private source may be selected intentionally. Other parts are neither rendered, fetched nor certified safe; this is not full Office compatibility or document anonymization.
- Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.
Common questions
Why can the exported value differ from what Excel currently displays?
Excel can calculate formulas and apply styles, dates, merged cells and other display rules. This tool reads stored source values and formula caches only. Use the JSON evidence and a trusted spreadsheet application when you need the actual calculated or displayed workbook.
Is this input sent to a server?
No. The application processes this input inside your browser tab and does not save it to persistent storage.
