How to use Remove Accents
Prepare an accent-simplified Latin version of text for a restricted field or comparison. An optional small substitution table handles letters such as ø and ß.
- Paste the text you want to simplify.
- Choose combining diacritics only or the extra Latin substitution table.
- Review names and meanings before reusing the result.
Good to know
- This is a lossy transformation and can change words or personal names. Preserve the original.
- Only graphemes starting with a Latin-script base are simplified. Marks in Arabic, Indic, and other scripts are retained.
- Extended substitutions cover ß/ẞ, ø/Ø, ł/Ł, æ/Æ, œ/Œ, đ/Đ, ð/Ð, and þ/Þ; this is not universal transliteration.
Common questions
Why does ø remain in diacritics-only mode?
It has no canonical combining-accent decomposition. Extended mode explicitly maps it to o.
Are emoji joiners and variation selectors removed?
No. Non-Latin graphemes are retained as entered.
