Rainwater Storage Balance Workbench

Follow entered rainfall and demand through a finite rainwater store, with captured water, overflow, supplied demand and exact period balance witnesses.

✓ Browser-local processing
Use the complete example schema. Quantities are exact decimal strings with up to six places; do not replace them with JSON decimal numbers.

How to use Rainwater Storage Balance Workbench

Provide roof areas and collection efficiencies, a capacity and initial volume, then an ordered rain/demand series. Choose whether collection or demand happens first within each period; the report preserves spill and unmet demand rather than borrowing from a future row.

  1. Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.
  2. Provide roof areas and collection efficiencies, a capacity and initial volume, then an ordered rain/demand series. Choose whether collection or demand happens first within each period; the report preserves spill and unmet demand rather than borrowing from a future row.
  3. Calculate, inspect the complete witnesses and limitations, then copy or download the JSON report.

Good to know

  • Up to 20 catchments and 200 periods. Areas are positive and at most 1,000,000 m², rain is 0–1,000,000 mm per period, and capacity/initial/demand are 0–1,000,000,000 L. A period has no inferred duration. No potable-water, design or irrigation recommendation is produced.
  • Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.

Common questions

Why can changing the event order change overflow and shortage?

An incoming storm can overflow a full store before a later withdrawal frees space. Conversely, a withdrawal that occurs before the storm cannot use that future water. Enter shorter periods when this lumped ordering is too coarse.

Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?

No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
