How to use Markup Calculator

Build a selling-price estimate from your cost. Unlike margin, markup is measured against cost; the result also shows the equivalent margin to help compare pricing approaches.

  1. Enter the positive cost of one unit or a whole order.
  2. Enter the percentage to add to cost.
  3. Calculate the selling price and compare the equivalent margin.

Good to know

  • Negative markup down to -100% is supported as a markdown. A -100% markup results in a zero selling price and an undefined margin.
  • Numbers use JavaScript floating-point arithmetic. Inputs are limited to 1,000 characters and a magnitude of 1 quadrillion. Results are rounded for display.
  • These are arithmetic estimates, not financial or tax advice. No currency conversion, fees, or legally applicable tax rules are included.

Common questions

Does a 50% markup mean a 50% margin?

No. A 50% markup on a cost of 60 gives a selling price of 90 and a gross margin of about 33.33%.

Can I start with a zero cost?

This tool requires a positive cost because a markup percentage is based on cost. Use the profit margin calculator for revenue with a zero cost.
