How to use PCM WAV Silence Trimmer and Remover

Classify a frame as quiet only when every channel is below the threshold. Remove qualifying edge or internal runs while retaining optional padding next to the remaining audio. The report maps kept source ranges to output positions.

  1. Choose a WAV, edge-only or all-region removal, and an amplitude threshold.
  2. Set minimum quiet duration and padding to retain near nonquiet audio.
  3. Run, review removed ranges and download. Keep the original because silence decisions are destructive to the exported copy.

Good to know

  • Local ordinary little-endian RIFF/WAVE, signed 16-bit mono or stereo PCM only; compressed, float and extensible WAV are rejected.
  • Each input is at most 10 MiB, 120 seconds and 2,880,000 frames. Output is bounded by the same frame/duration limits and 20 MiB; high sample rates reduce available duration.
  • Processing uses a local Worker with a 2-second compute deadline. No upload, autoplay, microphone or saved history. Unrelated metadata is omitted from exports.
  • Amplitude gating is not speech recognition, speaker detection, denoising or a loudness measurement. Quiet words or intentional pauses can be removed at an unsuitable threshold.
  • At most 4096 removed regions. A file with no frames reaching the threshold is rejected. Kept PCM sample bytes are copied exactly.
  • Threshold comparison uses a 32768 full-scale amplitude. Minimum durations and padding are rounded to whole frames.

Common questions

Does one silent channel remove a stereo frame?

No. Every channel must fall below the threshold for that frame to be quiet.

Why might no silence be removed?

A run may be shorter than the minimum or too short after retaining padding. The export then retains its samples.
