Map Scale Bar SVG Builder

Create a physical millimeter SVG map scale bar from your own scale ratio, distance units and bounded divisions, with exact position evidence.

✓ Browser-local processing
Use the complete example schema. Quantities are exact decimal strings with up to six places; do not replace them with JSON decimal numbers.

How to use Map Scale Bar SVG Builder

Supply the map's representative-fraction denominator and the real distance represented by one division. Choose divisions, subdivisions and an alternating or line bar. The tool derives every physical position as an exact fraction and exports a fixed-size SVG with labeled divisions and a complete coordinate report.

  1. Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.
  2. Supply the map's representative-fraction denominator and the real distance represented by one division. Choose divisions, subdivisions and an alternating or line bar. The tool derives every physical position as an exact fraction and exports a fixed-size SVG with labeled divisions and a complete coordinate report.
  3. Calculate, inspect the complete report and limitations, then copy the report or download the generated JSON or SVG artifact.

Good to know

  • Scale denominator is an exact decimal string from 1 through 1,000,000,000; division distance is positive up to 1,000,000,000 units. Choose m, km, international ft, international mi or nmi. One to ten divisions and one to ten subdivisions per division.
  • Each main division must be at least 12 mm wide; complete bar width is at most 300 mm. Bar height is 1–10 mm. The graphic adds 12 mm at each end and 34 mm vertically beyond the bar height. Title labels use at most 80 UTF-16 code units and are escaped; no raw markup is accepted.
  • SVG coordinates round once to a billionth mm; exact fractions remain in the report. Text is fitted to fixed widths. The exported graphic is detached from the map and must stay at 100% scale. Projection variability, ground accuracy, printer/screen calibration and map resizing are not corrected.
  • Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.

Common questions

Will the graphic update when I resize my map?

No. It is a standalone SVG whose physical length follows only the entered scale ratio. If the map is resized or its scale changes, regenerate the bar for that scale and verify the final physical output.

Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?

No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON or SVG download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
