How to use Local Tally Counter

Give each category a name, prepare the panel, and activate its counter as you observe an occurrence. Correct a mistake with −1 or Undo, and export the current counts before leaving. No mouse events are counted automatically.

  1. Name the categories you will observe, choose the starting count and download format, then select Run tool.
  2. Use a category’s +1 or −1 button. Native buttons also work with Tab followed by Space or Enter; there are no global hotkeys.
  3. Use Undo for the latest successful change, or Zero all counters to clear counts while retaining the names. Download the current state before Reset, rerunning or closing the page.

Good to know

  • This is a manual observation aid, not automatic event capture, a click-speed test or a certified measurement. Decide for yourself what one occurrence means; missed observations cannot be recovered.
  • 1–20 counters, each from 0 to 999,999,999. Names use at most 64 UTF-16 units each and 1,300 total source units. Exact case-sensitive trimmed names must be distinct. Counts and their combined total are exact integers in this range.
  • Undo retains only the latest 200 successful changes. Zero all is one reversible change; unavailable boundary clicks do not create history. Export includes current counts and the number of available Undo steps, not an event log or restorable Undo history.
  • State exists only in the current result panel. Reset, rerunning, closing or reloading discards it. No automatic storage, import, account, synchronization or upload is provided. Downloaded category names may contain private information.
  • Hidden-tab actions are ignored and controls pause until the tab is visible again. No timer, background counter or automatic restart exists. CSV prefixes formula-leading names with an apostrophe; JSON preserves the original trimmed names.

Common questions

Does every click anywhere on the page increase a count?

No. Only an explicit activation of a named +1 or −1 button changes its counter. Native keyboard activation works through the same action; pointerdown and click are not counted separately.

What does Undo restore?

It reverses the latest successful count change or Zero all action, up to 200 retained changes across all counters. A new change after Undo starts a new tail; there is no Redo.

Can I recover my session after closing the page?

No automatic session is kept. Download JSON or CSV before leaving to retain the current counts as a record. The download is a snapshot, not an importable session or a complete observation log.
