How to use Online Metronome and Tap Tempo
Set a pulse tempo and prepare a practice panel. Start enables short synthetic clicks only after you choose it. One BPM beat means one main pulse; subdivisions divide that pulse equally. The panel stops when the tab is hidden and needs an explicit new Start when you return.
- Choose a whole-number pulse tempo, pulses per bar, subdivisions and a quiet gain, then select Run tool.
- Select Start in the practice panel. The first main pulse is accented when Bar accent is selected. Select Stop to finish.
- While stopped, tap the Tap tempo button at your intended pulse. Apply the median-based rounded tempo when you are satisfied, then choose Start.
- Download the JSON snapshot to retain settings and scheduling evidence. It contains no microphone recording or sound file.
Good to know
- 20–300 BPM, 1–12 main pulses per bar, 1–4 equal subdivisions, 1–20% synthetic gain and a 1–10 minute session. Inputs must be ordinary whole numbers; swing and changing meters are not inferred.
- Cooperative browser scheduling is not hard real time. A delayed callback skips missed pulses instead of replaying them together. Output latency, Bluetooth devices, clock precision and interruptions affect perceived timing.
- Stop, Reset, rerun, hidden-tab state and page exit cancel pending local resources. Returning to a visible tab never starts playback automatically. A blocked startup ends after 5 seconds; failed context cleanup blocks another context in the same page.
- Tap tempo keeps at most 8 intervals from 9 taps, accepts 200–3000 ms spacing and resets after a longer gap. The median estimate is rounded to a whole BPM only on Apply while stopped. It is not audio tempo detection.
- Only the last 64 scheduling requests are retained. Scheduled counts do not prove that a speaker played them; settings and local button timestamps are not uploaded or saved automatically.
Common questions
Why is the metronome silent when I open or run the page?
Preparing the panel does not request audio. Select Start yourself, then check device volume if the browser permits playback. The panel reports startup or audio errors rather than silently retrying in the background.
What does the pulse mean in 6/8 or another time signature?
You choose the main pulse yourself. For a dotted-quarter pulse in 6/8, choose 2 main pulses per bar and 3 subdivisions. For an eighth-note pulse, choose 6 main pulses per bar and 1 subdivision. The tool does not interpret a score.
Can I leave the tab or download a click track?
Leaving the visible tab stops this practice session. The download here is a JSON settings and scheduling snapshot. Use Rhythm Click Track Generator for an offline WAV artifact.
Is the gain percentage a safe or measured listening level?
It limits the synthetic signal amplitude, not your hardware sound pressure. Start with a low device volume and adjust it yourself; this tool does not measure hearing exposure.
