How to use Educational Huffman Coding Workbench
Inspect symbol frequencies, codewords and exact encoded payload bits using an independently bounded greedy tree. The report includes a strict UTF8 interpretation when possible and distinguishes payload length from serialized codebook overhead.
- Enter input, byte/code json for decoding.
- Choose the settings for educational huffman coding workbench, then run the tool.
- Review the result and any limitations before copying or downloading it.
Good to know
- 8192 input/decoded bytes,256 symbols,65536 payload bits,255 bits per code and4096 decoder trie nodes. ASCII spaces, tabs and line endings may separate input bits.
- Equal-frequency tree choices break ties by smallest byte. A single symbol uses code0. This is an educational JSON/bit format, not a ZIP,GZIP or standard .huf file, and codebook overhead can exceed any payload saving.
- Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.
Common questions
Why can different valid Huffman tables encode the same frequencies?
Equal-weight choices can produce different optimal prefix codes. This tool states its deterministic tie rule and checks the resulting lossless byte round-trip.
Is this input sent to a server?
No. The application processes this input inside your browser tab and does not save it to persistent storage.
