How to use CSL Citation Metadata Review

Inspect an original reference dataset for duplicate IDs and common metadata questions before handing it to a dedicated citation processor. The report keeps unsupported types, extra fields and date/name limitations visible rather than presenting a partial check as complete CSL validation.

  1. Enter input.
  2. Choose the settings for csl citation metadata review, then run the tool.
  3. Review the result and any limitations before copying or downloading it.

Good to know

  • 500 records and 100,000 JSON characters; eight assessed types: article, article-journal, book, chapter, dataset, report, thesis and webpage. String IDs up to 200 characters or exact bounded integer IDs; simple literal/family/given names only.
  • Date-parts support one date or two endpoints, positive Gregorian years 1–9999 and optional month/day. No BCE, seasons, literal/circa/raw dates or full CSL schema, citation style formatting, DOI verification or source-truth claims. Extra fields are named as unassessed.
  • Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.

Common questions

Will this generate a correct APA reference?

No. This tool reviews a declared subset of input metadata and does not run a citation style processor. A clean partial report cannot establish the accuracy of the reference or its formatting in a particular style.

Is this input sent to a server?

No. The application processes this input inside your browser tab and does not save it to persistent storage.
