How to use Two-stage Flow Shop Workbench
Partition jobs by their two durations, form the Johnson order with deterministic ties and build both schedules from resource-availability and preceding-stage completion times.
- Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.
- Partition jobs by their two durations, form the Johnson order with deterministic ties and build both schedules from resource-availability and preceding-stage completion times.
- Calculate, inspect the complete witnesses and limitations, then copy or download the JSON report.
Good to know
- 1–200 distinct job IDs and nonnegative decimal-string first/second durations, each at most 1 billion with six decimal places. All durations use the same entered unit; zero durations are valid.
- Exactly two serial single-capacity stages, every job available at zero, nonpreemptive processing and unlimited waiting space. No setups, releases, due dates, breakdowns or third machine. Original order breaks equal sorting keys. Makespan optimality does not mean minimum weighted completion or a validated real production plan.
- Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.
Common questions
Does this sequence solve a general job shop?
No. Its guarantee depends on every job passing through the same two stages with the stated availability and buffer assumptions. Different routes, three or more stages, releases, setups or blocking change the problem and require a different model.
Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?
No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
