How to use Text File Encoding Converter
Reinterpret original bytes deliberately instead of guessing the source charset. A strict decoder rejects invalid sequences; replacement mode is an explicit lossy option.
- Enter local file.
- Choose the settings for text file encoding converter, then run the tool.
- Review the result and any limitations before copying or downloading it.
Good to know
- 8 MiB input and 32 MiB output; preview is limited to 20,000 characters.
- No automatic charset detection. Output is UTF-8; source BOM is consumed by the decoder, then the selected output BOM policy is applied.
- Processing is local. Output is limited to 1,000,000 text characters unless a stricter file limit is stated.
Common questions
Can the original encoding always be detected?
No. Several encodings can interpret the same bytes. Choose a known source charset and review the preview.
Is this input sent to a server?
No. The application processes this input inside your browser tab and does not save it to persistent storage.
