How to use Sampled Signal Spectrum Workbench

A direct compensated DFT uses the negative-exponential convention and no forward normalization. Optional mean removal precedes a periodic window. Magnitudes are divided by N times coherent gain, and positive-frequency amplitudes are doubled except DC and an even-length Nyquist bin.

  1. Enter real sample json array, sample rate (hz).
  2. Choose the stated convention and check the units and supported model.
  3. Calculate, inspect the result, then copy or download it.

Good to know

  • 4–512 equally spaced real samples, absolute value at most 1e9 and nonzero magnitude at least 1e-12; sample rate 0.001–1000000000 Hz. At most 262144 sample/bin products. Coherent-gain scaling is an amplitude convention, not a PSD or automatic correction for leakage/off-bin tones. Phase is null below 1e-12 times the weighted absolute-sum bound. No audio upload, playback, continuous capture, measurement calibration, spectrogram or alias-free acquisition claim. Sampling rate and units are your inputs.
  • Local calculation only; no input persistence or external lookup. Text/JSON is limited to 30000 characters and output to 1000000 characters. Numeric model inputs and precision/work limits are stated on this page. Approximate JSON numbers retain full stored values; exact arithmetic outputs retain decimal or fraction strings. Unsupported states fail explicitly.

Common questions

Does a peak always reveal the exact signal frequency?

No. The output samples a finite-window spectrum at discrete bins. Off-bin tones leak into neighboring bins, and aliasing can already be present before these samples reach the tool.

Is the input uploaded or saved?

No. The tool calculates inside this browser tab and provides a local download; it does not persist your input.
