How to use Sales Tax and VAT Calculator
For a net price, gross = net × (1 + rate). For a tax-inclusive price, net = gross ÷ (1 + rate); tax is gross minus net.
- Enter price amount, tax rate (%).
- Check the selected calculation options and input units.
- Run the calculator, review the result, then copy or download it.
Good to know
- One user-entered percentage, from 0–1,000%, is applied uniformly. No tax-rate lookup, exemptions, compound taxes, jurisdictional rounding, or legal eligibility determination.
- Decimal inputs have at most 120 characters and magnitude from 1e-100 to 1e15, or zero. Floating-point results are rounded to 12 significant digits; extreme derived results may underflow or be rejected. Exact integer results are identified separately.
- Educational estimate with user-entered assumptions, not a quote or financial/tax advice. Rates are hypothetical, fixed, and not fetched. Fees, taxes, inflation, payment-day conventions, and currency rules are excluded unless explicitly entered.
Common questions
What calculation does Sales Tax and VAT Calculator perform?
For a net price, gross = net × (1 + rate). For a tax-inclusive price, net = gross ÷ (1 + rate); tax is gross minus net.
Why is removing 20% VAT not the same as subtracting 20%?
A gross price of 120 at a 20% rate contains 20 tax on 100 net. Divide by 1.2 to recover the net price.
