How to use Organization Chart SVG Builder
Turn a small authored reporting table into a portable diagram. Unique IDs connect each employee to one manager, while names and roles appear in ordinary unscaled text. Duplicate names stay separate records. The JSON evidence retains the full source and every box and connector; the chart does not verify a real organization.
- Prepare a CSV with exactly id,manager, name, role headers. Use unique literal IDs; leave only the top person’s manager cell empty.
- Paste the table or choose one local UTF-8 file. Add a title and select Run tool.
- Review the chart and its original-row JSON evidence. Source row order controls sibling order; IDs remain distinct even when names match.
- Download the standalone SVG or JSON evidence. Inspect the SVG at a readable zoom before sharing it.
Good to know
- One rooted reporting tree with 1–50 employee records and at most seven manager edges from the root. Every nonempty manager must be a supplied exact ID. Multiple roots, cycles, self links, orphan records, repeated IDs and matrix reporting are refused.
- IDs contain 1–40 ASCII letters, digits, underscore, period, colon or hyphen; case and leading zeros matter. Names are nonblank, roles may be empty, and each has at most 80 UTF-16 units. Title has 1–60 units. Labels are literal text, without unsupported controls, invalid XML characters or bidi formatting controls.
- Display alone collapses ASCII whitespace and wraps whole grapheme clusters with a conservative UTF-16 line budget. A single cluster over 12 units is refused in a node label; a title cluster must also fit the available viewport line capacity. Ordinary text is never stretched to fill a box. Grapheme counts do not measure real glyph widths; inspect font coverage, complex-script shaping and bounds in the target browser.
- Use strict UTF-8 CSV with at most one initial BOM, 24,000 source UTF-16 units and a 100,000-byte file. Comma separators, doubled quotes and quoted line breaks are supported. All four header names and cell positions are exact; no spreadsheet or directory connection is made.
- The integer SVG viewport is at most 16,384 units per side and 16 million square units. Large or deep trees with long labels can exceed that combined budget and must be split into teams. SVG is capped at 300,000 characters and JSON at 750,000 characters and UTF-8 bytes.
- This is a static authored diagram, with no photos, live synchronization, arbitrary graph editing, employee verification, authority inference, HR compliance or physical print guarantee. JSON includes the original CSV and names; review private information yourself before sharing. Processing stays local without uploads or stored history.
Common questions
Can two people have the same name?
Yes. Connections use the exact id and manager strings. Generated N references map each box to its original CSV record in the JSON evidence.
Can a person report to two managers?
This version accepts one manager ID per row. Secondary or dotted-line reporting and matrix organizations need a different model and are refused rather than guessed.
Why does the JSON retain names and the original CSV?
It is complete evidence for the generated artifact, not anonymization. Both SVG labels and the JSON can contain private organizational information; inspect them before sharing.
Can I edit the downloaded chart or keep it updated automatically?
The SVG is a standard static vector artifact you can open in a compatible editor. To change employee records here, update the CSV and run it again. No directory or HR system is contacted.
