How to use HTTP Digest Field Workbench

Generate or compare SHA-256 and SHA-512 HTTP digest fields against explicitly supplied bytes. Choose Content-Digest for actual message content bytes or Repr-Digest for the complete selected representation. The tool uses those bytes exactly and never guesses transfer coding, compression or range context.

  1. Provide optional local byte file, utf-8 text when no file is selected, supplied digest field value (verify mode).
  2. Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
  3. Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.

Good to know

  • Local file at most 5 MiB, including an empty file. Pasted text is strict UTF-8, at most 200 KB. Only SHA-256 and SHA-512 are computed.
  • Verification parses a structured dictionary and requires byte-sequence values. Selected algorithms must be present and match; other algorithms remain explicitly unverified. Member parameters are reported and ignored.
  • A checksum is not a signature or proof of trustworthy content. You must supply the correct content or representation bytes; no HTTP request, dechunking, decompression or range reconstruction occurs.
  • Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.

Common questions

Can I verify Repr-Digest using only a downloaded range?

Usually no. Repr-Digest covers the complete selected representation, which may differ from a partial response body. Supply the bytes required by the actual HTTP context.

Does this change my original input?

No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
