How to use HTTP Content Negotiation Workbench
Compare supplied media types, content codings or language tags with explicit Accept field preferences. Trace media-range specificity, exact quality weights and identity-coding defaults. Language mode shows a basic matching matrix, retaining every matching preference instead of guessing one server policy.
- Provide accept, accept-encoding or accept-language value, available candidates, one per line.
- Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
- Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.
Good to know
- 20 KB per source, 100 ranges and 100 candidates. Header text is printable ASCII. Quality values use at most 3 decimal places; quoted weights and duplicate media parameters are refused.
- Media parameter values are compared exactly except case-insensitive charset. Equal-precedence conflicting weights are reported as unresolved. No registry or media-specific parameter vocabulary is embedded.
- Language mode is basic range matching only and does not choose a final language. Content-coding mode handles one coding per candidate, not a stacked coding chain.
- Results describe the supplied preferences. Servers can use additional factors or disregard preferences, so this does not predict a 200, 406, cache result or usable representation.
- Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.
Common questions
Can a specific zero weight be overridden by a broad wildcard?
For media types, the most specific matching media range determines the weight. An exact type with q=0 is not made acceptable by a broader positive wildcard.
Does this change my original input?
No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
