How to use Histogram Bin and Frequency Calculator

Sturges uses ceil(log2(n)+1). Freedman–Diaconis uses width2IQR/n^(1/3), falling back to Sturges when IQR is zero. Bins are left-closed/right-open except the final right edge, which is included.

  1. Enter numeric sample, manual edges.
  2. Choose the stated convention and check the units and supported model.
  3. Calculate, inspect the result, then copy or download it.

Good to know

  • 1–1000observations,2–257manual edges or at most256automatic bins. Out-of-range samples, repeated edges and unresolved absolute edge spacing reject. Constant data use one declared artificial span; no fitted distribution.
  • Runs locally. Text/JSON fields are capped at30,000 characters; stricter page-specific and numeric-string limits also apply. Numeric inputs are bounded to magnitude1e15 and nonzero magnitude at least1e-100 unless an exact-string mode states otherwise. Approximate summaries use12 significant digits; CSV numeric cells retain the complete stored value and potentially formula-like string cells gain a protective apostrophe; unsupported, non-finite or detected underflow states return an error.

Common questions

Where does a value on an internal edge belong?

It enters the bin starting at that edge. Only the final outer right edge is included in the preceding last bin.

Is the input uploaded or saved?

No. The tool calculates inside this browser tab and provides a local download; it does not persist your input.
