Family Relationship Path Workbench

Trace two people through your supplied parent links and export closest-common-ancestor paths, generation counts and limited cousin-pattern evidence.

✓ Browser-local processing
Use the complete example schema. Quantities are exact decimal strings with up to six places; do not replace them with JSON decimal numbers.

How to use Family Relationship Path Workbench

Enter every known person with an ID and zero, one or two recorded parents, then select two IDs. The report checks the whole graph for cycles, keeps each closest shared ancestor and shows a canonical shortest parent path from each selected person. Cousin degree and removal are attached only when both recorded distances are at least two generations.

  1. Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.
  2. Enter every known person with an ID and zero, one or two recorded parents, then select two IDs. 3. Calculate, inspect the complete report and limitations, then copy the report or download the generated JSON or SVG artifact.

Good to know

  • One to 100 people, zero to two distinct parents per person, existing targets only. IDs use at most 80 UTF-16 code units; labels and references are exact and case-sensitive. Empty parents mean ancestry is not recorded.
  • All closest common ancestors are retained in person-source order. Minimum recorded edge counts and one source-parent-order shortest path per side are used; this is not an enumeration of every pedigree-collapse route or a complete family-tree import.
  • Same-record, direct-ancestor, shared-recorded-parent and ancestor-sibling-position cases are separate from cousin degree/removal. No gendered name, full/half sibling label, biological/legal/adoptive classification or DNA estimate is inferred. No shared recorded path does not prove unrelatedness.
  • Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.

Common questions

Why can the report show several closest ancestors?

Two people may share a recorded couple or several independent ancestral lines. The report preserves those witnesses instead of choosing a single family label. Its generation counts describe the shortest entered paths and do not establish a unique biological relationship.

Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?

No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON or SVG download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
