How to use Nonuniform Tabulated Gradient Workbench
Interior derivatives come from differentiating the quadratic interpolant through each three-point neighborhood. Endpoints use either a two-point secant or a three-point one-sided interpolant. Unequal x spacing is retained exactly rather than treated as a constant step.
- Enter sample json [[x, y],…].
- Choose the stated convention and check the units and supported model.
- Calculate, inspect the result, then copy or download it.
Good to know
- Exact-grid inputs are plain decimals with at most six places and magnitude≤1e9. Raw JSON number spelling is checked before conversion; decimal strings can preserve exact grid values. Exact rational intermediates are bounded to 8192 bits. 2–500 [x, y] rows for first-order endpoints, or at least 3 rows for second-order endpoints. x must increase strictly. This differentiates an interpolation model through your samples; noise, measurement errors, unresolved curves and endpoint bias are not estimated. Derivative units are y units per x unit. No expression evaluation or smoothing.
- Local calculation only; no input persistence or external lookup. Text/JSON is limited to 30000 characters and output to 1000000 characters. Numeric model inputs and precision/work limits are stated on this page. Approximate JSON numbers retain full stored values; exact arithmetic outputs retain decimal or fraction strings. Unsupported states fail explicitly.
Common questions
Why do two endpoint modes give different answers?
The first-order endpoint uses only the nearest interval. The second-order endpoint uses a quadratic through three samples. Neither reconstructs an unknown curve exactly in general; the second is exact for quadratic data within the arithmetic model.
Is the input uploaded or saved?
No. The tool calculates inside this browser tab and provides a local download; it does not persist your input.
