How to use PostgreSQL Query Plan Explorer
Explore supplied EXPLAIN JSON with node hierarchy, estimates and explicitly labeled actual metrics. The report retains parent paths, per-loop rows/times and inclusive loop products when present. It never subtracts child timing as though parallel/inclusive measurements were exclusive and never runs the SQL query.
- Provide explain format json output.
- Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
- Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.
Good to know
- 200,000 input characters;5,000 plan nodes,80 levels. Metrics must be finite, nonnegative and≤1e15.
- No query execution, index recommendation, full PostgreSQL-version validation or measured evidence from estimated-only plans. Inclusive/parallel times must not be summed as wall time.
- Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.
Common questions
Why are two time columns shown?
PostgreSQL actual node timing is per loop. The report also labels a loop product, while keeping it inclusive; neither is automatically an exclusive cost or the overall execution time.
Does this change my original input?
No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
