How to use Polynomial Long Division Calculator

Coefficient lists are in ascending powers. Exact rational long division eliminates the highest remainder power at each step, so dividend=divisor×quotient+remainder with degree(remainder)<degree(divisor).

  1. Enter dividend coefficients, constant first, divisor coefficients, constant first.
  2. Choose the stated convention and check the units and supported model.
  3. Calculate, inspect the result, then copy or download it.

Good to know

  • Degree at most20, up to100characters per plain-decimal coefficient, no expression evaluation. Zero divisor rejects; trailing high-order zeros are removed. Exact intermediates capped at8192bits.
  • Runs locally. Text/JSON fields are capped at30,000 characters; stricter page-specific and numeric-string limits also apply. Numeric inputs are bounded to magnitude1e15 and nonzero magnitude at least1e-100 unless an exact-string mode states otherwise. Approximate summaries use12 significant digits; CSV numeric cells retain the complete stored value and potentially formula-like string cells gain a protective apostrophe; unsupported, non-finite or detected underflow states return an error.

Common questions

Can a remainder be a nonzero polynomial?

Yes. It contains the lower-degree terms that the divisor cannot eliminate. Every output coefficient is an exact fraction rather than an unlabelled float.

Is the input uploaded or saved?

No. The tool calculates inside this browser tab and provides a local download; it does not persist your input.
