How to use Palette File Workbench
Read GIMP GPL/JSON swatches and export ordered GPL, JSON or escaped CSS variables. The parser preserves named RGB swatches and their order with explicit integer channel checks. CSS export uses fixed --swatch-N identifiers, keeping user-provided names out of executable CSS selectors/comments.
- Provide palette source.
- Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
- Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.
Good to know
- 1–1,000 swatches;200,000 characters; integer RGB0–255 and visible names≤200 characters. GPL text/JSON only; proprietary/RIFF palette formats are unsupported.
- No profile conversion, perceptual palette optimization or uploaded CSS application. Order/names are data; CSS variable names are generated.
- Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.
Common questions
Are swatch names used as CSS identifiers?
No. Generated names such as --swatch-1 avoid unsafe or ambiguous input-derived identifiers. JSON/GPL output retains the original visible swatch names.
Does this change my original input?
No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
