How to use Import Map Resolution Workbench

Resolve a module specifier through a supplied import map, including scope precedence and slash-prefix mappings. Keep the map base URL separate from the referring module URL. Inspect normalized entries and the actual mapping that matched, without importing any supplied module.

  1. Provide import map json, import map base url, referring module url, module specifier.
  2. Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
  3. Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.

Good to know

  • 100 KB of duplicate-free JSON, 40 parsed levels, 100 scopes and 1,000 total mapping/integrity entries; each URL, key, address and specifier is at most 4,000 UTF-8 bytes.
  • This static authoring profile supports HTTP(S) addresses without credentials and refuses control/whitespace characters in the requested specifier. Invalid/bare mapped addresses become blocking entries; unsupported address schemes are refused.
  • The WHATWG single-map algorithm selects descending scope/key precedence and prevents prefix backtracking. Missing mappings fall through; a matched blocking entry stops resolution. No map-merging history or existing module cache is modeled.
  • Integrity strings are displayed, not validated against downloaded content. URL resolution does not establish file existence, MIME type, CORS, CSP, module compatibility or safety.
  • Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.

Common questions

Why do the map base and referring module URL differ?

Map addresses and scope prefixes are normalized against the map base. A relative requested specifier is normalized against the referring module before those mappings are considered.

Does this change my original input?

No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
