How to use Image Pixel Color Sampler

Read a precise local image pixel’s RGBA values and download a whole-cell magnified patch around that coordinate. Choose an integer source coordinate instead of inferring a dominant color. Keep the exact decoded sample, its alpha fraction and the clipped local patch bounds in the report, with a real PNG for close inspection.

  1. Provide static source image, source x coordinate, zero-based, source y coordinate, zero-based, source patch radius in pixels, whole-pixel magnification.
  2. Choose the supported mode and run the tool. Review its assumptions and any reported errors.
  3. Copy the result or download a separate output; reset to clear the current form.

Good to know

  • One static non-animated PNG, baseline JPEG or simple VP8/VP8L WebP, at most 8 MiB, 1,000,000 pixels and 2,048 per side. Strict structure/CRC and dimension preflight precedes native decoding; APNG, progressive JPEG, extended/animated WebP, compressed PNG metadata, SVG/GIF and header/native orientation disagreements are refused.
  • Coordinates are exact nonnegative integer pixels from the decoded top-left origin and must lie inside the actual image. Raw decimal fractions, signs, exponents or near-integer spellings are refused. This is coordinate entry, not a pointer-event picker or a measurement of the screen display.
  • Returns eight-bit R/G/B/A, six/eight-digit hex and the exact alpha fraction over 255. RGB hex does not incorporate alpha or a chosen display background. No dominant palette, ICC/RAW precision, CSS color-profile conversion or contrast judgment is inferred.
  • Patch radius is an integer 0–15 and scale an integer 1–16. The neighborhood clips to the image; every retained source pixel is copied to a scale × scale output cell with its alpha. The maximum patch is 496 × 496 pixels; no interpolation or missing edge pixels are invented.
  • Native decode waits at most 10 seconds and PNG encoding at most 5 seconds; codec work cannot be forcibly aborted. Bitmap/canvas resources are released on success/failure and late decoded results are closed. Encoded PNG is at most 8 MiB. Native color conversion, premultiplication or re-encoding can change source/hidden transparent bytes or metadata; this is not an archival sample-preservation promise.
  • Source-coordinate and patch loops have fixed small bounds after one bounded native decode. No file is opened by URL, uploaded, automatically saved or changed in place.
  • Structured text output is limited to 500,000 characters. Reduce the supplied source when that separate output budget is exceeded.
  • Inputs are processed on this device and are not automatically saved or uploaded.

Common questions

Why can a sampled transparent pixel look different over different backgrounds?

RGBA stores both color and opacity. The RGB hex here does not composite that opacity onto a background, and the patch keeps its alpha. A viewer’s background and the browser’s decode/color handling can change the displayed appearance.

Does this change my original input?

No. The tool returns a separate result. Review that output before using it in another application.
