How to use Fixed-axis Gear Train Speed Workbench
Assign toothed gears to fixed shafts, connect external or internal meshes, then set one shaft RPM. Report exact ratios, direction, disconnected freedom and conflicting cycle equations before interpreting a driven speed.
- Use the example as the schema; replace its labels and entered model assumptions.
- Assign toothed gears to fixed shafts, connect external or internal meshes, then set one shaft RPM. Report exact ratios, direction, disconnected freedom and conflicting cycle equations before interpreting a driven speed.
- Calculate, inspect the complete witnesses and limitations, then copy or download the JSON report.
Good to know
- 1–30 shafts, 1–60 distinct gears and at most 100 distinct meshes. Teeth are whole counts from 1 to 1,000,000. Driver RPM is an exact decimal string from −1,000,000 through 1,000,000 with at most six places.
- Each mesh connects different fixed axes. An internal mesh has unequal tooth counts, treating the larger member as the ring. The model assumes compatible module/profile and ideal rigid contact; it does not verify center distance or tooth geometry.
- A cycle imposing two unequal nonzero speed ratios locks its component at zero. A nonzero driver there is infeasible; a disconnected consistent component has unknown absolute speed. No planetary/carrier motion, torque, losses, power, backlash, construction advice or design certification.
- Local calculation with no upload, input persistence or outside lookup. Model JSON is limited to 30,000 characters and 10,000 values. Decimal quantities are strings with up to six places; count fields use plain JSON integers. Exact fractions are capped at 8,192 bits. The complete JSON output is limited to 1,000,000 characters; approximate numbers preserve their stored values. Unsupported states fail explicitly.
Common questions
Why are some unpowered shaft speeds unknown rather than zero?
A disconnected, consistent train can rotate at any common scale until a driver is supplied. Zero would invent a physical constraint. A contradictory closed ratio loop is different: the ideal equations force every shaft in that connected component to zero.
Are my model inputs saved or sent to a server?
No. This model runs in the current browser tab and creates a local JSON download. It does not save your input or call an external data service.
