How to use Cost Assignment Workbench

A bounded subset dynamic program enumerates every injection from the smaller matrix side into the larger side. Costs stay on an exact six-decimal grid. Rectangular matrices assign every member of the smaller side and list unmatched members of the larger side.

  1. Enter cost matrix json (rows by columns).
  2. Choose the stated convention and check the units and supported model.
  3. Calculate, inspect the result, then copy or download it.

Good to know

  • Exact-grid inputs use plain decimals with at most six decimal places and magnitude at most1e9. JSON numeric inputs use their stored decimal spelling; quote decimals when their exact entered spelling matters. No input is evaluated as code. At most12 rows and12 columns; signed costs are permitted, every pair is available, and each selected row/column appears once. At most4096 subset states and24576 transitions. No forbidden pairs, capacities, scheduling, assignment advice or unique-optimum claim. This exhaustive subset method is intended for small worksheets.
  • Runs locally without input persistence. Text/JSON fields have a30000-character cap unless a stricter page limit applies; output has a1000000-character cap. Exact-grid workflows preserve six-decimal arithmetic, while approximate workflows use finite floating-point values. JSON downloads retain complete stored numeric values and exact fractions where provided. Unsupported formats and detected numeric or work-budget excess return an error or a clearly unresolved classification.
  • Educational user-assumption arithmetic only. No live prices, laws, tax rules, quotes or financial advice.

Common questions

Does a rectangular worksheet leave some items unassigned?

Yes. The smaller side is fully assigned, one-to-one, into the larger side. The download explicitly lists unmatched row or column numbers. Equal-cost solutions return one deterministic optimum.

Is the input uploaded or saved?

No. The tool calculates inside this browser tab and provides a local download; it does not persist your input.
