How to use Constant Acceleration Motion Calculator
With constant acceleration, v=u+at and displacement=ut+at²/2. Inverse mode uses an exact-decimal discriminant sign and a stable quadratic formula, retaining both nonnegative time roots when they exist.
- Enter initial signed velocity (m/s), signed acceleration (m/s²), elapsed time (s), target signed displacement (m).
- Choose the stated convention and check the units and supported model.
- Calculate, inspect the result, then copy or download it.
Good to know
- Meters,seconds,m/s,m/s²; signed velocity/acceleration/displacement and nonnegative supplied time. Newtonian constant-acceleration model, not traffic or equipment safety. Unresolved distinct roots are rejected.
- Runs locally. Text/JSON fields are capped at30,000 characters; stricter page-specific and numeric-string limits also apply. Numeric inputs are bounded to magnitude1e15 and nonzero magnitude at least1e-100 unless an exact-string mode states otherwise. Approximate summaries use12 significant digits; CSV numeric cells retain the complete stored value and potentially formula-like string cells gain a protective apostrophe; unsupported, non-finite or detected underflow states return an error.
Common questions
Can a target displacement occur at more than one time?
Yes. A changing direction can cross the same position twice. Inverse mode returns every supported nonnegative solution rather than selecting one silently.
Is the input uploaded or saved?
No. The tool calculates inside this browser tab and provides a local download; it does not persist your input.
